Dance

Pointers for Ms Wee’s exercise: Warm-up exercise

For tabletop:

1) Make sure you elongate your body so that your body is straight, if you can’t seem to do it, it may mean that you have moved too much to the left/right. Don’t overshoot your corner, if not you can’t work your lower back.

For Flatback pulses:

1) Be very mindful of your arms, keep them by your side and don’t bring them furtherback

2) Be mindful of your back, so press your chestbone down to keep it straight

3) Keep your head down

For Demi-plié:

1) Do not bend your back while doing it

During contraction of body (rolling up):

1) Imagine your body is being punched at the belly-button

When doing rises:

1) Do not adjust yourself; try to stabilize yourself using your core muscles

2) Try to go as high as you can

3) Press your 10 toes against the ground; don’t let them pop up

For working the spine:

1) Make sure you keep your weight in the centre when you bend left/right

2) When you drop down and roll back up, be aware in the change of spine

When doing quad/thigh stretch:

1) Make sure you keep your knees together

When doing butt stretch:

1) Make sure you press your knees down

When you are doing the reaching exercise (the one where you step right and lift your right arm):

1) Make sure you look upwards

Also, be mindful of the retiré when you do it.

For the leg exercise:

Tendu flexes and points (your leg is stretched out, and you flex and point, and then do a plié):

1) Keep your leg straight

2) Don’t let your guard down on the feet, especially when you bring your feet behind, press the heel down when you flex

3) When you do your plié, pull yourself up.

When doing your plié in 2nd:

1) Remember to keep your tailbone down

Whenever you do use your feet:

1) The process is always heel, ball, and the toe of your foot

When doing attitude:

1) Supporting leg must be very straight

2) Hold your centre and pull your body up

3) There should be minimum weight on the leg used for the attitude

Across the floor: Pas De Bouree

1) When you turn, don’t throw your weight back (despite you throwing your hands back), keep yourself centred

2) Remember to accent your hands on count number 1

3) When you turn, remember to rotate on the spot, don’t move to the left
